ASL Students Start the First Week in Edmodo & Moodle

Ms. Cooper's ASL classes met in the computer lab Thursday and Friday of last week to sign-up for their Moodle and Edmodo accounts. Edmodo will serve as a "Grand Central" as the ASL classes move into a more blended classroom model. Videos embedded into the Edmodo or Google website of the teacher are watched as homework. The next class day the student will pull up Edmodo and take a short quiz or knowledge check related to the video. There is then plenty of time in class for discussion and interactive, understanding building activities. The students also enjoy the Facebook like interactions they are able to have on the completely secure Edmodo network. Moodle is used on test day so each student may progress at his or her own pace. It allows the student to watch the test videos pausing or moving on without leaving any one behind. The one hour time limit ensures that each student has adequate time and doesn't feel pressured to move on just because they are the only one stuck on a question. Both Moodle and Edmodo give immediate feedback to the students once they have completed the quiz or test including missed items and what they have a firm understanding of. Both have great applications that make learning easy and fun, in or outside of the classroom walls.
