Google selected Round Rock High School Instructional Technology Specialist Brandie Cain-Heard for its intensive program for innovative educators.
Cain-Heard will attend the Google Teacher Academy, a two-day intensive program that recognizes educators who are doing innovative and exciting things on their campus with technology. Cain-Heard was selected to represent Round Rock ISD.
“The instructional technology department is proud of Brandie in this and all of her accomplishments,” Round Rock ISD Director of Instructional Technology Lannon Heflin said. “She is a recognized leader in the field of education technology and a kid-centric leader who strives to bring innovation and engagement to RRISD students. Brandie’s involvement in this event and associated subsequent responsibilities will not only benefit Round Rock ISD teachers and students, but will influence schools across Texas.”
Participants of the Google Teacher Academy will get hands-on experience with Google’s products and technologies, learn about innovative instructional strategies, and receive resources to share with colleagues. Upon completion, Academy participants become Google Certified Teachers who share what they learn with other educators in their local regions and beyond.
Former Google Teacher Academy participants have described the training as life changing for an educator, Cain-Heard said.
“My Google Teacher Academy cohort is comprised of 50 connected educators from all over the world. The conversations we have on Google Plus, Voxer and Twitter are powerful, one of my colleagues used the term game-changing, and it fuels our passions for what we do,” Cain-Heard said. “We share, reflect, ask for advice, and improve our practice with every post. What this cohort is teaching me will help me teach others.”
Google Certified Teachers are exceptional educators with a passion for using innovative tools to improve teaching and learning, as well as creative leaders and ambassadors for change, according to Google. They are recognized experts and widely admired for their commitment to high expectations for students, lifelong learning and collaboration.
As an ITS for Round Rock High School, Cain-Heard is an authorized Google Education Trainer and co-founder of the RRISD Ninja Academy, a professional development series tailored to teach best practices for Google tools.
“This experience isn’t mine alone. When I return from my two days of learning and thinking about PD in different ways, I plan to share and connect with my campus, department and community,” Cain-Heard said.
