Our wonderful science teacher, Leslie Lopez, has started a blog and begun posting her AP Biology journey on Twitter and Google Plus! Here is the start of something awesome.
From her first blog:
I have decided to start recording what I have done for my AP Biology class to help with organization, planning, and a way to communicate with any out there that might be teaching the same course. First, some background info about me and my course.
I have been teaching AP Bio now for about 7 years. I have taught it to a school that was 95% Economically disadvantaged and now at a school whose EOD pop isn't as high. I taught under the older curriculum and had two years to get ready for the newer curriculum before it was implemented.
Over the course of seven years I have picked up a few tips and tricks that worked or didn't work for me and I continue to find new ways to make this AP course accessible to all my students. My hope is to use this blog as a way to document what I have done and what I continue to do to increase my enrollment and passing rates on the the exams. Last year I had 55 out of 58 kids pass the exam, and I hope to make this a 100% passing year.
Each blog post will have a specific activity I have done to improve my class over the years and if you are reading this, I hope you will find this helpful.
