In our Next Gen Algebra 2 class we reviewed our unit with a day of creativity and games. In the unit reflection students submitted after the unit test, the review day was by far their most favorite day!
Review started with the typical review worksheet. But instead of students working every problem, they worked just one (at first). The worked the problem on whiteboard or paper and checked in with their group mates to be sure their problem was correct. Then they created a 30 second Tellagami explaining the one problem that was their responsibility. Their work served as the background for the Tellagami. They uploaded their work to Google Classroom. I captured them there and shared their work in public Class Documents so that all Algebra 2 students could use the Tellagamis in their review.
Here are just a couple of examples:
That project took about 25 minutes which left plenty of time to play three fun games emphasizing the big ideas in our unit. We played Desmos Polygraph to practice our transformation language. Desmos Polygraph is a game I highlighted in my training session on Job Alike Day. It's a combination of MasterMind and 20 Questions. And students loved it!
Then we played Kahoot - a game that changes the energy level in the classroom every time I announce it! Students practice solving equations with Kahoot.
And last we played a Socrative space race ... and students who finished quickly cheered on others to make it to the finish line.
Students have been asking if we can review all our units like we did that day! We scored big on our first Unit review!
